God’s watchfulness extends over all the earth and to all its inhabitants. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place. They keep watch over the evil and the good.” (Provers 15:3) When Adam and Eve broke their relationship with God by doubting His Word and defying His lordship, He did not turn His back on Eden. He did not let humanity perish at the hand of these two doubters and defiers. He went looking for them. He cried out, “where are you?” When we think about God's constant surveillance, our initial reaction is often one of guilt and fear. "Oh no! God knows my wicked thoughts and sees the evil deeds that no one else knows about.” That is true. Adam and Eve could not hide their sin from God. The people of Noah's day learned that "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on earth had become." The Book of Joshua, Chapter 7, tells how Achan hid the spoils from Jericho in his tent but could not hide them from God's all-seeing eyes. King David discovered that God completely knew his "secret" sin with Bathsheba. God does see all our sins and will ultimately hold us accountable. The fear of God's judgment should motivate us toward righteousness, authenticity and confession. It is hard for us to imagine that, even in anger, God is seeking to make eye contact and ear contact with us, to express His desire to reconcile us to Himself and enfold us in His arms. This is the positive aspect of God observing our every move. Do you ever give thanks that there is nowhere you can go where God is not watching out for your best interest? God keeps careful watch over His world and, above all, His children. The concept of God's eyes roaming the world is derived from biblical passages, particularly 2 Chronicles 16:9, which states, "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him." This verse suggests that God is actively observing and supporting those who are devoted to Him. “The LORD will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121: 7-8)
I believe that God is calling us to fix our eyes on who He is—His Divine attributes and His Name El Roi—the Hebrew name for God meaning “The God who sees me.” Let us begin by declaring: ALL Glory, honor and praise be to the Lord of Hosts, the Righteous Judge, King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Who rules from a Throne of Righteousness and is Holy and Perfect in ALL of His ways. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. And the government shall rest upon HIS shoulders. The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, the first and the last. The Almighty comes forth from HIS Throne with Power and Might and HIS rulings are entering the nations! And to His Kingdom there is no end!
In order to please God, we must first believe that He exists. We must believe that Jesus is alive and that God is real. And then once we accept that God exists, we must also believe He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. At the end of the day, our Lord's attributes inspire awe within us, and like the psalmist said in Psalm 113, we can also marvel at the question, "Who is like the Lord our God?" The answer is NO ONE! That being the case, let's consider God's capacity. He's not only "high capacity,” He's "infinite capacity." He never sleeps or slumbers. He is perfect in all His abilities. There isn't a single thing that He doesn't know, and there is no one more powerful than Him. And unlike humans and the devil who can only be in one place at one time, He is everywhere at the same time. Let’s consider three of His attributes:
I. GOD IS OMNIPOTENT
One of the words that theologians often use to describe God is "omnipotent." Broken down into parts, the prefix omni means "all" and the suffix potent means "powerful." So, when we use this term to describe God, we're saying that He is all-powerful. There is no greater power in existence than the power of God, and there is nothing in existence that God doesn't have power over. A great example of that is given to us in the opening chapter of the book of Genesis. That chapter begins by describing the work of God in creation. We're told, as we look at these verses, that God spoke creation into existence. What is revealed to us in Genesis is that God Himself has power over the universe. God is so powerful that He can speak something into existence that didn't exist a moment earlier. He created the heavens and the earth. He created light. He created water. He gave specific borders to the water. He also created land and vegetation. Our God is all-powerful. And there is no greater power than the power of God, Consider for just a moment what that means for you and me. In 2 Timothy 1:7 we read, "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." Our all-powerful God who has made us part of His eternal family when we trusted in Jesus Christ, is working His power through us. He has not left us powerless to face the challenges, griefs, or adversities of this life. The very same power that spoke creation into existence is accessible and at work in all who believe. Are you convinced of this? What difference will this make in the life of a believer who becomes fully convinced of this truth? Likewise, Scripture also reveals to us that since we are recipients of new life and a new birth through Jesus Christ, we can be confident that the same power that created life on this earth will also raise us to life again after our bodies experience natural death. In 1 Corinthians 6:14 we read, "And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power." Our omnipotent, all-powerful God has already revealed what's in store for us. Just as Jesus rose from death, so too will we be raised by the power of God. What a blessing it is to realize that our God has chosen to use His power in such a gracious and merciful way toward us. II. GOD IS OMNISCIENT Another word theologians use to describe God is "omniscient." The term omniscient can likewise be split into two parts. "Omni" means "all", and "scient” means "knowing". So, when we refer to God as being omniscient, we're describing the fact that He is all-knowing. God knows everything. There isn't a single thing that can be known, past, present, or future, that God isn't intricately aware of. Often in life, we can mistakenly begin to believe that God isn't aware of us or what we're experiencing. One of the great mistakes humanity has historically made is to adopt the belief that God is distant and unaware of the details of our day-to-day experiences. But God isn't distant and He certainly isn't unaware. He knows everything about us including the number of hairs on our head, pores in our skin, words we will ever say, and breaths we will ever take. There isn't anything He doesn't know. (Matthew 19: 29-30) According to Psalm 139 God knows when we sit down and rise up; knows our thoughts; knows all our ways; knows the words we speak; we cannot escape His Presence; He formed us in our mother’s womb; the number of our days are written in His book before we were born; when we awake He is still with us! God is all-knowing, but in our vanity and self-worship, mankind often makes the mistake of usurping this attribute of God. Therefore, may the words of verses 22-24 be our prayer: “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Examine me, and know my anxious thoughts, and see if there be any offensive way within me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” In His omniscience, God also knows what is to come. A large percentage of Scripture is dedicated to prophesy. Prophesy is a gift from the Lord to us that He uses to confirm that what He is saying is true when His promises are fulfilled. He also gives us a prophecy to encourage our hearts to be hopeful. No matter how difficult today might be, we can be confident that the joyful future our all-knowing God has revealed to us is going to come to pass. I Thessalonians 5: 2 says: “Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies (spoken revelations—words of instruction of exhortation or warning).”
III. GOD IS OMNIPRESENT One additional term theologians use to describe God is "omnipresent." It's a term that means God is "all-present" or present everywhere at once. There isn't a location we can travel to where we can escape His presence. This is what David was expressing in Psalm 139. God’s presence is continuous throughout all of creation, though it may not be revealed in the same way at the same time to people everywhere. At times, He may be actively present in a situation, while He may not reveal that He is present in another circumstance in some other area. The Bible reveals that God can be both present to a person in a manifest manner (Psalm 46:1; Isaiah 57:15) and present in every situation in all of creation at any given time (Psalm 33:13-14). Omnipresence is God’s characteristic of being present to all ranges of both time and space. Although God is present in all time and space, God is not locally limited to any time or space. Only God can be all places at once. No one else has this capacity. Like us, Satan is a created being and like us, he can only be in one place at one time. He is not all-powerful. He is not all-knowing, and he is not all-present. Consequently, Satan as prince of the powers of the air is using technology to counterfeit God’s attribute of Omnipresence! This is not a new idea as George Orwell published his dystopian novel “1984” on June 8, 1949 envisioning a totalitarian future society where the government, led by “Big Brother,” exercises strict control over its citizens, including surveillance and manipulation of information—via disinformation and misinformation so that society trusts “Big Brother’s omnipotence with every fiber of their being.” This ideology has been incrementally introduced into our nation by government authorization beginning in 1978 to conduct electronic surveillance, physical searches, recording devices and search of business records. The renewal of FISA in April 2024 along with the Patriot Act initiated after 9-11 has turned America into a surveillance state that has eroded and violated our God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. LET US JOIN IN PRAYER THAT OUR OMNIPOTENT, OMNISCIENT AND OMNIPRESENT GOD WILL EXPOSE, OVERTURN AND BRING JUSTICE TO THIS NATION THAT RESTS UPON HIS SHOULDERS AND BRING DOWN SATAN’S AGENDA!
EL ROI—THE GOD WHO SEES YOU!
We discover this name of God in Genesis 16:14-15. We meet Hagar, an Egyptian slave, who encountered God in the desert and addressed Him as El-Roi, "the God who sees me." Hagar’s story in the Bible is a narrative of struggle, faith, and Divine intervention. She was an Egyptian slave who became the handmaiden of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. Sarah, unable to bear children, offered Hagar to Abraham. Hagar became pregnant, leading to tension between the two women that resulted in threats and mistreatment that led Hagar to flee into the desert. Hagar was a woman amazed that God heard her cries, saw her misery and actually spoke to her. This is what she said: “You are the God who seems me. Have I truly seen the One who sees me?” (Genesis 16: 13) The God that Hagar met in the desert is a deeply personal and intimate God. He looks after Hagar and her needs. God’s character has not changed: God sees us. He sees you. He hears us! El Roi sees us in our pain and suffering. El Roi sees us when we feel abandoned. Psalm 34:18 says: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Another comforting verse is Isaiah 41: 10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God is calling each of us into His Presence and when we Practice His Presence, we will never be the same! God is in a special way attentively present to those who call upon His name, who intercede for others, who adore God, who petition, and who pray earnestly for forgiveness (Psalm 46:1). 1 Samuel 16:7, states, "For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart." God is seeking men and women after His heart that desires to please Him—as El Roi—the God who sees us! We are to stand firm in our faith with our feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace and watch what the Lord thy God will do in this time! God is all we need!
