There are ten attributes that make up the essence, or character of God. The justice of God is a central attribute of His character as it hinges on His other nine attributes: Sovereignty, Absolute Righteousness, Eternal, Omniscience, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Unchanging, Absolute Truth, and Love. Justice governs all His actions and decisions manifested in His impartial administration of law and judgment according to the standard He has established in His Word. God’s justice is grounded in His holiness and truth, ensuring that every action, whether in reward or punishment, is perfectly fair and equitable. God’s justice is the foundation of His throne and the basis for His governance of the universe, ensuring that all His ways are just and upright. God has two avenues by which He expresses His love to believers: First to mature believers in blessing; and second to carnal or apostate believers through the function of Divine justice or discipline. Justice administers the penalty which righteousness demands. The justice of God is revealed in the Cross of Christ, where He demonstrated His righteousness by providing a way for sinners to be justified without compromising His character or moral law. His justice was profoundly demonstrated in the atonement of Jesus Christ, who bore the penalty for human sin, thereby satisfying Divine justice offering for forgiveness and justification to those who believe. For believers, God’s justice is a source of hope and security, as it guarantees that all wrongs will be righted and that the righteous will be vindicated.
We as believers today cry out for God to render justice in the wake of violence, evil, hatred, deception and a multitude of attacks both spiritually and physically from the enemy. I believe that we can all agree that it is time for justice! God will indeed bring forth justice to the nations. According to Isaiah 42, God will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not be disheartened or crushed until He has established justice in the earth. Psalm 82:8 is a cry for justice; “Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is You who possesses all the nations.”
Isaiah declares in 43: 9-14 that all the world is on trial before God. He calls for the world to present their false witnesses, but God’s witnesses and His servants chosen by Him will be His witnesses. God is God and before Him there is no “god.” Before Him there was no God formed and there will be none after Him. God is the LORD God Almighty! There is no Savior besides God! God is the One who declared and saved us—there was no strange “god.” We are His witnesses. It is time for us to speak up, “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so! God is God from eternity and there is no other who can deliver us or remove us from His hand. He acts and who can reverse it?”
Stephen in Acts and recently Charlie Kirk refused to cower in fear but spoke boldly God’s truth and set forth His standard and declared His Divine attributes! Let us return to the words of Isaiah in Chapter 33 for encouragement in this hour. “Woe to you, O destroyer, while you were not destroyed; And he who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him. As soon as you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will deal treacherously with you. O LORD, be gracious to us; we have waited for You. Be our strength every morning, Our salvation also in the time of distress. At the lifting up of Yourself nations disperse…The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. And He will be the stability of your times. A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is his treasure…Now, I will arise, says the LORD. Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up…My breath will consume like a fire…He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity, He who rejects unjust gain and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil. He will dwell on the heights, His refuge will be the impregnable rock His bread will be given him, His water will be sure, Your eyes will see the King in His beauty…For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us.” We must hold on to God’s Word, He is a just God, His reward is with Him and His recompense before Him. God is our Judge—He decides whether our deeds are good or evil. (2 Cor. 5:10) He is our Lawgiver—He instructs us how to live. And He is our King—He rules overall. How amazing that He is also our Savior! He is our strength every morning. When we first get out of bed in the morning, we must go to the Lord in prayer and soak up His Word. The awareness of His presence throughout the day will energize us for whatever is ahead.
God has declared war against the enemy and we are seeing it played out daily in our nation. God is assembling His earthly and heavenly warriors to do His bidding at such a time as this. Let’s again return to the words of the prophet Isaiah in Chapter 43 as he declares the word of the LORD: “Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness; rivers in the desert.” God does not promise to keep us out of the wilderness or away from the desert, but when we belong to Him, He does promise to sustain us there and renew our lives, even in tough times. Recently the President reinstated the Department of War signed into law by President George Washington on August 7, 1789—236 years ago. The Secretary of the Department of War Pete Hegseth has called a mandatory meeting in Virginia of all the top Generals and Admirals from all over the world for an unprecedented meeting on September 30. We must pray that God will direct every detail and action in that meeting to align with His purpose and plan. God has no rival, no peers, and no equals. Satan is merely a fallen angel. God therefore deserves all our trust and promises to reward that trust in ways beyond our comprehension! Let us see His Justice!
The Judge is in the courtroom! He says; “Put Me in remembrance, let us argue our case together; State your cause that you may be proved right.” (Isa. 43:26) God says, “Is there any God besides Me? Or is there any other Rock? I know of none.” (Isa. 44:8) Scripture consistently teaches that only one true God exists. All other “so-called gods” (1 Cor. 8: 5) are actually nothing but demons trying to usurp the worship that belongs to God. (I Cor. 10:20) All matters will be weighed by the LORD—maker of all things—stretching out the heavens and spreading out the earth all alone. He causes the omens of boastings to fail and makes fools out of diviners, causing wise men to draw back and turning their knowledge into foolishness. God will confirm the word of His servant and perform the purpose of His messengers. (Isa. 44: 24-26a) God is just, as well as wise, and good—He is not only the Creator and Preserver of the world, but also its Governor! One has rightly pointed out, “To deny God’s justice is to wrest the scepter from His hand, and to expose His government to contempt and insult, by proclaiming impunity to its subjects.” All around us are those who have so erroneous viewpoint of Divine clemency, that they suppose God is as easy-going as the modern parent, and as lax as many of our judges. They suppose that only in the most extreme and exceptional cases (if indeed then) will He punish the crimes of any with everlasting fire. By such ungrounded assumptions they stifle any occasional convictions of conscience, and steal their hearts against any apprehensions of danger which may visit them, persuading themselves that God is so full of mercy, that His justice is virtually inoperative.
In very early times Abraham consoled himself with the fact that “The judge of all the earth” would assuredly “do right.” (Gen. 18: 25) In his wondrous song Moses declared, “I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.” (Deut. 32: 3-4) David extolled his God as, “The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.” (Ps. 145: 7) Most remarkable is that word in Jeremiah where the Lord is designated “the Habitation of justice” (50:7) so that His people might take hope from and shelter in His righteousness. So, too, His prophets found comfort therein in the dark days of Israel’s decline: “the just LORD is in the midst thereof, He will do no iniquity”. (Zeph. 3:5) Revelation 15:3 we learn that the inhabitants of Heaven exclaim, “great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Your ways, O King of saints.”
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your Throne; faithful love and truth go before You.” (Ps. 89: 14) This is perhaps the most helpful passage of all in the casting of light upon the most-important, awe-inspiring, and yet glorious subject we are now seeking to study. The great Jehovah is here exhibited to our view—under the idea of Sovereign and Judge—being presented as He sits upon His Throne. It is the Throne of universal empire and of absolute dominion. From that Throne, the Lord exercises His authority and executes His laws with omnipotent but an impartial hand. Righteousness and justice are magnified as being the “foundation” of Jehovah’s Throne. In human affairs, justice is simply the giving everyone his due. But such a rule cannot possibly be applied to the Most High God, for the simple reason that He owes His creatures nothing. There is a vast difference between God’s government over His rational creatures and that of an earthly prince over his subjects. God cannot be brought down to the level of His creatures. The words of Proverbs 20:22 encourages us; “Do not say, ‘I will repay evil.’ Wait expectantly for the Lord, and He will rescue and save you.” We must understand that despite how things might appear to our eyes and ears, God knows so much more about the circumstances we are in that we ever could or ever will. When we release a matter into God’s hands, He will handle it. He will ensure that justice is served to the individual or individuals who are persecuting or doing harm to us. God will decide the appropriate response that is necessary for there to be justice. The voice and pressure of the wicked seek to distract and bring trouble, fear and terror upon us. God calls us to run to Him as our refuge and strength—a very present help in time of trouble. (Ps. 46:1)
If we get right with the Father, He will answer our prayers and avenge the adversaries. He will avenge Himself on His foes.” (Isa. 1: 24) God will crush transgressors and sinners and they will come to an end. (v. 28) David in Psalm 110: 1 says “The LORD says to my Lord; Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” The New Testament quotes this Psalm, written by David, more than any other. Jesus used this verse to prove that He, the Messiah, was both David’s “son” and David’s Lord. God is getting ready for the great reckoning. Jesus is seated at God’s right hand and God is getting Him ready to judge this world. Psalm 110: 5-7 says, “He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. He will judge among the nations. He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men who oppose Him.”
Now is the time for all of us—the sons and daughters adopted by God through His Son—born of His blood and by His Spirit to cry to “Abba! Father!” for His help. Because we have put our trust in Christ’s finished work, we are justified from all things. Surely, then we must exclaim, “My mouth shall show forth Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day!” (Ps. 71: 15)
