God is our solid foundation to weather us through storms and keep us sheltered throughout any trials we face. If we find ourselves in times of trouble, we should first check the condition of our personal pursuit of God. “The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.” (Psalm 14:2) If our connection with Him is weak, our representation of Him will also be weak. Every time God called one of His servants into action, His message was, “You can be strong and courageous because I am with you.” Victory isn’t about our abilities, our strength, our skill, our armor, our gifts or our dedication but is completely centered on God’s presence. We can be strong because we will be strong in and through Him! As we face literal storms in our nation that are epic, we must draw near to Him and know that we know that we can depend on Him. “As for us, we will walk in the Name of the LORD our God forever and ever.” (Micah 4:5) God will not leave us in the dark about His nature and will. He wants to teach us about His ways, so that we walk in His paths. Through His Spirit, He enables us to reflect His nature and do His will. Now is the time for God’s people to rise up in His authority and power knowing who we are in Him!
We are hearing all sorts of things that can cause us to fear and doubt God. We hear of the possibility of a market crash and bank failures. We hear of wars and conflicts with Hennie Penny declaring that the sky is falling and World War III is about to unfold. Let us be assured that everything is in God’s control and His time is perfect. He sees from eternity to eternity and wants none to perish but for all to come to repentance. Truly God is giving us a window to get into a right relationship with Him and help others to get into a right relationship with Him to complete and purify His Church—the Bride of Christ. This earthly life is temporary, and a new heaven and new earth await all those who have been born again into the family of God. There are two voices in the world. Which report do we believe? Faith or fear? God’s Word or a lie from our adversary? This is the hour that we must choose. We cannot rely on our feelings but on our faith in the One True God! We must believe God and enter into His rest. He will give us peace when there is chaos or calamity. Jesus is our peace in the midst of the storm!
God’s not dead—He’s still on the Throne! Psalm 93: 1-2 affirms: “The LORD reigneth, He is clothed with majesty, the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith He hath girded Himself; the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. Thy throne is established of old; thou art from everlasting.” This declaration emphasizes God’s eternal sovereignty and stability. I read a true story from a man that arrived home after dealing with people and problems all day. He told his wife that he thought everyone in the world was crazy except for them. He went on to say that he was fed up with the news and social media and that he had concluded that both the Republicans and Democrats are equally compromised. I believe that we can identify with his sentiment as what we are seeing and experiencing is frustrating. The more frustrated we get, the more we need Psalm 93.
The Lord Reigns—Verses 1 and 2 of Psalm 93 establishes the reality on which all else in the Psalms depends: “The LORD reigns.” That declaration is repeated in each of these Psalms: Psalm 96:10: “Say among the nations, ‘The LORD reigns!”; Psalm 97:1: “The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlines be glad!”; Psalm 99:1: “The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!” The Psalmist goes on to say that the world is established. Despite all the frustrations we feel, there’s a certain concreteness and stability to this planet and our solar system that is established in the stability of God Himself. There is a consistency that lets us know someone is in charge. There is an intelligent designer, a God who is holding everything together.
The Lord Over the Floods—In verses 3-4 we read about floods rising: “The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.” Floods have been and continue to be in our news as we see the devastation and destruction they cause as well as the flood of lies on the airwaves. The term “flood” in the Bible is portrayed as a divine act of judgment, reversing creation by returning the earth to a state of watery chaos—as in the pre-creation condition of Genesis 1:2 and before God renews the world through Noah’s family. The flood underscores God’s justice in judging sin and His mercy in preserving a righteous remnant. It is clear in this passage that God is mightier than the floods and chaos that seek to overpower and destroy us. It is important to remember those things when it looks as if the world is coming apart at the seams. The idea of a “flood” in the Bible can mean:
A Literal Flood (Genesis 7)
A Powerful Enemy—the threat of political and miliary foes. “Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters; but God shall rebuke them, and they shalt flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. And behold at evening tide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.” (Isaiah 17: 12-14)
A Terrible Problem—“Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing; I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me…Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the water flood over me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. Hear me, O LORD, for thy lovingkindness is good; turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies and hide not they face from thy servant; for I am in trouble; hear me speedily.” (Psalm 69: 1-2, 14-17)
A Sinful Culture—Commentator Albert Barnes said: “It would appear as if the psalmist had been meditating on dark things which occur in the world; the mysteries which abound; the things which seem irreconcilable with the idea that there is a just government over the world.” “And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water; Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished; But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgments and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is the Lord as a thousand years, and thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3: 5-9)
The Saints Rest—In verse 5 we read: “Thy testimonies are very sure; holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.” Catherine Booth, who worked alongside her husband as he founded the Salvation Army, said on one occasion: “The waters are rising, but so am I. I am not going under but over.” In remembering that the Lord reigns even when the floods rise, there are two means of grace to help us:
His Word Is Sure—That means firm and unalterable. God’s Word is sure because it is grounded in the unchanging nature of God Himself who is still on the Throne and in complete control. Scripture affirms that His Word is true, righteous, and enduring forever. (Ps. 119: 160), and that He never fails to fulfill His promises. (1 Kings 8: 56) As stated in Psalm 119: 89, “Forever, O LORD, your word is settled in heaven,” emphasizing its eternal stability. Jesus declared, “Your word is truth” (Jn. 17:17), affirming its divine authority and reliability. This surety means believers can trust God’s Word completely—whether in matters of faith, morality, or future hope—because it reflects the character of a God who does not lie. (Numbers 23:19)
His House Is Holy—This refers to God’s eternal abode but should also be reflected in His earthly Church. We are commanded in both the Old and New Testaments to “Be ye holy, for I am holy,” calling God’s people to reflect His moral purity and separateness. The phrase originates in Leviticus 11: 44-45, where God commands Israel; “For I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, because I am holy.” This call to holiness is echoed in 1 Peter 1: 15-16, where the apostle Peter writes: “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written; “’Be holy, for I am holy.” The command is rooted in God’s own nature—His holiness is sure and certain and the standard and motivation for our lives. Holiness involves daily discipline (1 Peter 1:13); rejecting former sinful desires (1 Peter 1:1), living in reverent fear (1 Peter 1: 17), and showing sincere love. (1 Peter 1:22) While perfect holiness is not attainable in this life, believers are being transformed by the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18) and will one day be fully like Christ (1 John 3:2). This command is not a burden, but a privilege—living as those chosen and called by a holy God who is a sure thing!
Our Bible is not only a historical book but a present and future book. It is the only book that accurately reveals the past, present, and future without error. The Word of God makes it clear throughout its pages that God is on the Throne. He always has been, and He always will be. I Peter 3:22 teaches that God is not only on the throne, but His Son is at His right hand ruling and reigning. Some days on this earth seem long and challenging. It feels like the enemy is winning, and the wicked are prospering while God’s people are struggling. God the Father and God the Son knows what is happening in this world, but nothing can happen that He does not allow. God is sovereign and all-powerful and His justice will prevail! We can rejoice every morning that we have a God who loves and watches over us. He can see what is ahead and promises to supply the grace we need to face whatever comes our way. God is willing to help us to walk in His path if we invite Him into our lives and seek His will.
God is presenting us with this challenge today—to pray and ask Him to guide our every decision and trust Him to help us and look to Him for our answer. Remember, Father knows what is best and has a plan for our life. He is still on the Throne today, and even though circumstances may change, He never changes. Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession on our behalf. What an encouragement to pray and rest in the Father’s plan. Let us live today knowing God is still ruling in this world! God is speaking to His children “I AM A Sure Thing! I cannot lie! Rise up in My Authority and Power knowing who you are in Christ. My glory shall fall on you and shine brighter than the darkness!” Justice is coming! God wins!
